DemoLinux - Oldest Live Desktop!

DemoLinux - Oldest Live Desktop!

DemoLinux allows you to run Linux without installation, disk partitioning and other hassles that usually prevent people from giving Linux a try. This is made possible by a set of technological features in the Linux kernel, and by means of some other free software (notably by S.u.S.E. and RedHat).

DemoLinux was published in year 1999 and the last update was in 2002!

Motivation
We wanted to make it possible to everybody to look at what Linux can offer, and to make it possible for software publishers wanting to show their Linux-based software to distribute a no hassle hands-off demo CD.

But this kind of CD makes also a wonderful Linux-to-go solution: you might carry your favorite desktop configuration in your pocket, sit in front of a non-Linux box, boot from the CD and be in front of your preferred environment in minutes.

Gnome Desktop

Hardware Requirements!
To try out DemoLinux, you need a PC equipped with a CD-ROM and at least 32 Mb of RAM for simple graphics interfaces, 64 for advanced graphics interfaces, 128 to use StarOffice! (can you handle it?)

This is enough to get a running Linux system, with graphics, preconfidured desktop and login mask.

StreamBOX - LiveCD

StreamBOX - LiveCD

StreamBOX-LiveCD is a selfmade, KNOPPIX based Boot-CD, which is specially designed to stream MP3. Also there are some programs to stream in the OGG-Vorbis-Format. If you ask, why I reinvented the wheel, because you know of the very nice dyne:bolic project, please read Dyne:bolic page.

Concrete the following programs should help to get the streaming working:
- Dstream (selfmade, Dialog based script to stream with Freestream)
- Tstream (selfmade, like Dstream, but with dump to the harddrive)
- OGGstream (building the configfiles for darkice or ices...)

xPUD - Just Browse The Web!

xPUD - Just Browse The Web!

xPUD is an unique Linux distribution, consisting mainly of a web browser and a media player, with a simple user interface on top. It can turn your computer into a kiosk-like station by leveraging web technologies, making surfing and watching movies as easy as pie.

It's fast, on average booting within 10 seconds (demo on YouTube), and it's small, too. Core image is weighing in at under 35 MB, yet it still remains binary compatible with most major Linux distributions like Ubuntu or Fedora. So xPUD can not only be a great platform to deliver Web Apps, but it's also suitable for use on Netbooks or All-in-one PCs.

Requirements:
256MB RAM and 64MB free disk required.
